New iPhone cases from… Tesla?!

Last week, Android manufacturer OnePlus did something a bit weird: they released a case with their signature ‘black sandstone’ material for the iPhone 6. Now, electric car company Tesla is doing the same thing, with the announcement of cases for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus made from spare bits of Model S upholstery.

The move makes sense from a ecological standpoint: why throw away perfectly good leather that could easily be turned into a case for your iPhone? And with 50,000 new Model S cars being made each year, there’s certainly enough waste to go around.

Tesla are selling the cases via their American online store, in flip and flip wallet varieties. All are made from reclaimed leather, stamped with the Tesla name and logo, and will fit the iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6S Plus.

You can also get touch screen gloves from the company, although sadly these don’t appear to be made from prospective Tesla Model S materials.
