MiPow’s Playbulb Candle is one of our favourite smart home products: it’s small, clever and provides great ambiance. Now, the same firm is back with another great smart light: the MiPow Playbulb Comet. This smart LED strip allows you to add backlighting to any object, and change its colour and brightness using your smartphone. Let’s take a closer look.
The Comet is essentially a strip of LED tape, measuring two metres (6.6 feet) long. 3M sticky tape allows you to place the Comet anywhere you wish, without leaving marks. You can add a subtle glow to televisions or furniture, light up an alcove, even decorate a Christmas tree if you like! The number of uses are only limited by your creativity, and provide a unique character anywhere you use them.
Each strip connects to your phone via Bluetooth 4.0, and can be controlled from a distance of about ten metres (32 feet). The LEDs are connected to the mains via a slim, almost invisible adapter cord.
The Playbulb app is available for iPhone and Android, and lets you control how each Comet looks — you can select one of millions of colours, from standard white light to gorgeous and unusual shades. You can control groups of up to five comets if you like, letting you change the look and feel of anything from a single object, to a whole room! With one Comet you can do some very impressive things, and it only gets better as you add more Comets to the equation.
