Does the Moto X Play support Quick Charge 2.0?

The Moto X Play has a massive 3630mAh battery, but somehow the phone only ships with a measly 1A charger. That means it takes an absolute age to recharge the phone, even though the X Play actually does support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 standard (which uses 2A+ chargers at higher voltages). We tested the Moto X Play with a Quick Charge 2.0 charger, and you can see the results in the video:

Basically, you can swap the default charger with a Quick Charge 2.0 alternative, and experience much faster recharges. In fact, the X Play’s battery can be charged from 0 to 50% in just 30 minutes using one of these Quick Charge 2.0 chargers – a massive improvement. Charging from 0 to 100% takes an hour and a half, which is again impressive.*

* You might wonder why charging from 50% to 100% takes longer than charging from 0 to 50%. The reason is down to the battery’s chemistry; charging speeds go down as the battery fills up. This is true of all batteries of this type, and isn’t a unique feature of the Moto X Play or Quick Charge 2.0.

  1. NEXUS 6P has a 3450 mAH battery and with its original charger it takes around 1hr 23min to charge from 0 to 100%. I have a question, is this is good when compared to moto x play battery and is there is anything related to USB type C?.

  2. It should take less than 14 hours, that’s for sure. If your phone is consuming a lot of power (e.g. Playing HD video) while it’s charging, that could increase the charging time… But maybe there’s something weird about your setup. Are you plugged into the mains, as opposed to a USB port on your PC or laptop? Are you definitely using the stock charger, including both cable and adapter? In any case, picking up a quick charge 2.0 adapter could save you a lot of time!

  3. How much time should it takes to charge moto xplay with supplied charger? The phone battery dropped to 15% and with plugged in charger it shows 14 hours to full charging
Ps: i bought phone on 5th january 2016

  4. It’s not waterproof, it’s water resistant. Furthermore, if the back wasn’t clicked in completely, then even a small amount of water could still get inside and damage the phone.

  5. All seems to be ok now. After using the supplied charger and a quick charge 2.0 charger for a week, I tried my old trusted 2.4A charger and it charges to 100% without issue. Not sure what the issue was. But all seems good now.

  6. I just bought moto X play last wednesday. A bit of water spill on my mobile and it continued working but my battery isn’t getting charged. Now I can’t on it. What should I do? The reviews say it’s water proof

  7. Hi Alexis,

That sounds like a battery issue rather than a charging issue; even with a 2.4A charger you should be able to reach 100%. What happens if you turn off the phone and charge it then?
