Google are expected to unveil their latest Nexus phones today at an event in San Francisco. Here’s what we know so far about the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P – including specs, features and UK pricing!

Nexus 6P specs, features & design

nexus-6p-1

The Nexus 6P was in the headlines just a few days before the phone’s launch, with leaked slides providing confirmation of details that have appeared in dribs and drabs for weeks. The slides show that the Huawei-made phone will have a metal unibody design, with a 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440p screen protected by Gorilla Glass 4. The back will have a fingerprint scanner, newly supported in Android, and a 13-megapixel camera without optical image stabilisation.

Battery life will be a big focus, with a 3450mAh battery that dwarfs that of recent phablets like the iPhone 6S Plus (2750mAh) and Galaxy Note 5 (3,000mAh). The phone will of course run Android M upon launch, which includes a number of battery-saving features that’ll make the most of that high capacity.

Finally, the Nexus 6P will include the latest technologies available, including a USB-C connector for charging and syncing, and a Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor. Four colours will be available, including black, white, silver and gold… although gold is apparently a Japan-exclusive, at least for launch.

Nexus 5X specs, features & design

Now for the Nexus 5X. This LG-made phone will have a smaller 5.2-inch display, at a manageable 1920 x 1080p resolution. The phone is made from plastic, suggesting a lower price point than the 6P. The back has a fingerprint scanner and a 12.3-megapixel camera, with an f/2.0 lens and laser-assisted autofocus.

Inside, we’re expecting a Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor running at 2GHz. This is backed with 2GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB of storage. There’s no micro SD card slot, in line with past Nexus models. The battery is also reasonable here, at 2700mAh. The phone does include USB-C, but doesn’t include wireless charging like its predecessor did. Black, white and mint colours are expected for the 5X.

UK release date and pricing

The most exciting part for Nexus fans? These phones will debut at much lower prices than last year’s Nexus 6. Android Police is reporting prices of $380 (£300) and $500 (£380) for the 5X and 6P, respectively. That’s a lot lower than the $650 (£500) starting price of the Nexus 6.

Google’s event kicks off at 8AM San Francisco time (5PM UK time), and the phones should go on pre-order immediately after the event finishes… probably around 6-7PM, UK time. Be sure to check the Google Store around that time for your chance to pre-order, and check out our accessories for both the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P.
