How to improve iPhone X battery life

Disappointed with the battery life of your iPhone X? We’re here to help — read on to find out which accessories and software settings can return the vitality to your iPhone X’s battery. Let’s get started!

1. Get an iPhone X battery case

That’s what you get with the Mophie Juice Pack Air, the first iPhone X battery case on the market. Once installed, you get 1720mAh of extra battery power, which should be enough to give you 150% of your current battery life — enough to get through even the longest days. Best of all, the streamlined case provides excellent protection too, making it easy to keep your iPhone X in good condition. You can find out more in our recent blog all about this essential new case.

2. Enable power-saving mode early

Here’s another simple tip: make full use of that of that  Low Power Mode on the iPhone X. You can find this in Settings > Battery. Once enabled, apps won’t be allowed to work in the background, animations are disabled and downloads will pause. This is great for stretching out your last 20% of battery, but you’ll see bigger impacts the earlier that you enable power saving mode. You can turn on Low Power Mode faster by asking Siri to “turn on Low Power Mode” — nice!

3. Find out what apps have been using up the most battery

As well as enabling Low Power Mode, you can use the Settings > Battery screen to find out which apps have been sapping your battery the most. If you find a naughty app, you can tap on its entry to prevent it from running in the background, or you can uninstall it entirely. Cleaning out your phone periodically will help it to feel new for longer, so it’s well worth doing.

4. Use a power bank to charge on the go

Olixar Powerboost Premium Portable Charger - 6000mAhPower banks, also known as portable chargers, are are an absolute essential when you’re dealing with any phone with a small battery. They allow you to top up your phone whenever you’re not using it, while keeping your phone slim and light at all other times.

The iPhone X can benefit from fast USB-C charging, so finding a USB-C power bank that supports USB Power Delivery and a USB-C to Lightning cable can be an awesome combo. Otherwise, any power bank that provides at least 1A charging should work well enough, even if charging speeds will be a bit slower. There are a wide range of options available, so keep in mind that capacity, size and price are all positively correlated — don’t get a massive power bank if you’ll only ever need a small top-up. 3000mAh to 6000mAh should be enough for most people, providing anywhere from 1 to 2 full recharges.

5. Check battery health

If you’ve followed these steps and your battery life is still poor, it’s possible that something is wrong with your iPhone X battery. Before iOS 11.3, you’d need to take your phone into an Apple Store in order to diagnose it, but now you can do so yourself. Visit Settings > Battery once more, then click on Battery Health. If your battery health is at 79% or lower (or simply ‘unknown’) then it might be worth swapping the battery for a new model. This will cost a bit, but if it allows you to use your phone all day, then it might well be worth it!
