Could the S8 have an S Pen? Samsung Galaxy S8 case leak comparison

This week we were sent some very interesting cases from a supplier, reportedly intended for use with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. We took a look at the cases to see what we could discover about the upcoming phones — or at least what one case manufacturer is expecting!

First of all, the size of the phones. The S8 case will snugly accommodate a Galaxy S7, meaning the S8 should have the same screen size — about 5 or 5.1 inches. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S8 Plus case appears to be wider than that of the Galaxy S7 Edge or even the Note 7, signalling this phone could improve its diagonal measurement from 5.5 inches to around 5.7 inches.

The ports are interesting too. If we look at the bottom, we can see a cutout that matches up exactly with the Galaxy Note 7’s S Pen. Maybe Samsung decided to add the S Pen to both of their Galaxy S models this year to replace the Note 7 ahead of schedule, or maybe this is actually a Note 8 case?

Elsewhere, we have a small cutout for the microphone and the headphone jack, agreeing with rumours that the headphone jack will remain on the S8. Weirdly, there doesn’t appear to be a charging port on the case; perhaps this will be the first fully wireless Galaxy device? That seems unlikely — how would you connect it to a PC for maintenance? — but it’s an interesting possibility.

The camera also has an unusual set of cutouts on the back. There’s a camera cutout in the usual position, but there’s also a cutout above it. This could be a flash or even a fingerprint sensor, but vertically aligned flash units are a rarity in smartphone design these days.

The power button also appears to have moved, transferring from the right side to the left above the volume buttons. That’s not unprecedented for an Android phone, but it would be quite a change from Samsung. However, given the amount of changes that we expect from the Galaxy S8, this wouldn’t be too surprising.

At top also has a cutout which mirrors one at the bottom… it could be a dual stereo speaker layout, which would be a real upgrade for the Galaxy S series.

What do you think of the cases — do you think some of these features might appear on the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus? Let us know in the comments below, or on YouTube! And stay tuned for more cases and accessories as they arrive!
