Add Quick Charge 2.0 to the Sony Xperia Z2 with this one weird trick

Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 seems like quite a modern technology, and according to Sony it made its debut on the Xperia Z3 last year… but developers have uncovered a method of adding Quick Charge 2.0 capabilities to the Xperia Z2, which debuted in early 2014!

Adding Quick Charge 2.0 to the Xperia Z2 is something of a lengthy process, but according to users and developers it does work well afterwards. Lead developer and XDA member showlyshah worked to develop test kernels, original firmware of the Japanese version (which does support Xperia Z2) and a modified system partition.

The following steps give you a taste of what you’ll need to do:

  1. Flash the AndroPlus v59 kernel that supports fota recovery
  2. Boot into recovery before flashing the system partition zip
  3. Flash the stock Japanese kernel, baseband and loader using the flash tool
  4. Wait for the phone to reboot
  5. Use a certified Quick Charge 2.0 charger and enjoy full speed charging!

For the full instructions, and a place to ask your own questions, check out the XDA thread. Of course, as always – you can seriously break your phone by doing things like this, so be careful and if you’re not sure about something, don’t do it.

Good luck, and let me know if this worked for you!
