Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact revealed ahead of their IFA debut

Sony is planning an event at the IFA trade show in Berlin on September 3rd, but a pair of leaks have revealed two of the phones they were set to announce: the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact. Let’s take a look at what was leaked.

Sony Xperia Z3 specifications

The Xperia Z3 is going to be Sony’s flagship phone for the latter half of 2014, quickly following up the Xperia Z2 which came out earlier this year. A photo showing the phone and its specifications leaked today, giving us an unprecedentedly comprehensive look at the phone’s internals. Here’s what was listed:

  • 5.2″ Full HD (1920 x 1080) Triluminos IPS display
  • 20MP rear camera with 4K video capture + max ISO 12800
  • Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor at 2.5GHz + LTE
  • 7.5mm thin body (.7mm thinner than Z2) in black, white + copper
  • 3100mAh battery, stereo speakers, noise-cancelling headphones

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact photos

The second leak of the day was a series of press photos for the Xperia Z3 Compact. Here we see that the Z3 Compact will be available in four colours to start with: green, black, red and white. Some specifications accompanied the photos, suggesting that we’d see a 4.6-inch 720p display, a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and a 20.7-megapixel camera.

Conclusion

Tune into the Sony press conference at 4:15 CEST on Wednesday to see both smartphones – and quite possibly a smartphone and tablet too.
