Motorola launch Moto 360, 2nd gen Moto X and Moto G

This week Motorola invited the press to a private event at their Chicago headquarters. The company showed off four new products at the event – the round Moto 360 smartwatch, an upgraded Moto X flagship and a new Moto G budget smartphone. Let’s take a closer look at what was announced!

Moto 360

The Moto 360 has been the most anticipated Android Wear smartwatch since the platform was announced earlier this year, and now it’s finally close to release. Motorola are already selling the watch in the US, but it’ll take until October until the phone hits the UK. The watch will launch at £199 in grey leather or black leather options. One bad indicator from early reviews? Battery life is very limited, at only 12 hours with typical use.

Moto X

Motorola’s flagship phone just got a lot better. The new Moto X has a larger 5.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display and comes with a real metal frame that looks and feels high end. The camera has also been boosted, from 10 megapixels to 13, with a new circular diffused flash. Inside, you’ll find a Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor and Android KitKat on board – soon to be Android L. The phone feels a lot more competitive when it comes to raw specs than its predecessor, but still comes with the enviable (and customisable!) body that made its name. The phone will go on sale from the end of September for around £420 – with more expensive models coming with more storage and/or premium rear cover materials like leather or wood.

Moto G

The second-generation Moto G is a solid update to Motorola’s most popular phone ever. The phone includes a bigger screen at 5 inches, front-facing stereo speakers, a microSD card slot, and better rear and front-facing cameras. Despite the upgrades, the Moto G remains cheap at £150 – this is the ultimate cheap Android phone that still does it all.

Moto Hint

The Moto Hint is something we didn’t expect – a super tiny Bluetooth headset. The headset is a lot smarter than some of its brethren, with passthrough audio so it doesn’t feel like there’s anything blocking your hearing and an automatic on/off switch that detects when you put it in your ear. As well as phone calls, the Hint is also ideal for getting directions, doing voice searches and otherwise making the most of Google Now. The coolest part? The headset comes with its own mobile charging dock, allowing it to reach 10 hours of constant use.

Conclusion

So there we have it – the creative output of Motorola for the latter half of 2014. Let us know what you think of the new handsets and accessories in the comments below!
