Nokia Lumia 920: Leading specifications, Windows Phone 8 style

The Nokia Lumia 920 is the Windows Phone 8 follow-up to the critically acclaimed Nokia Lumia 900. The new phone comes with a massive upgrade boost across the board – we’re not just talking iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S, here. The changes are largely down to the new features of the Windows Phone 8 operating system, which now has a much higher range of hardware support.

To start off with, we’ve got a larger 4.5″ display that’s capable of a bountiful 1280 x 768 resolution – much higher than its predecessor (800 x 480) and even higher than the iPhone 5 (1136 x 640) or the Galaxy S III (1280 x 720). It’s the most pixel dense flagship phone from any OS, and that will translate into a gorgeous looking display.

The internals have also been improved. There’s a new Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor that runs at 1.5 GHz, one of the leading processors used in Android phones this year. The phone sports 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a 2,000 mAh battery, too. The cherry on the top is the PureView camera, which trades the massive megapixel count (and corresponding bulge) for some excellent low-light performance and optical image stablisation.

This is the first Windows Phone generation to compete with Android on specs, and I’m loving it. As well as making for good conversation for nerds everywhere (myself included), it will also allow app developers to aim for much higher levels of functionality and graphical fidelity.

On the outside, the phone is very much in the iconic Lumia style of the previous generations – while the new dimensions will demand a new Nokia Lumia 920 cover and other accessories, the phone is available in many of the same bold colours and includes a similar shapely chassis.

We’ll be stocking a wide range of Nokia Lumia 920 accessories, so stay tuned for more details on the perfect accoutrements to this highly anticipated handset.
