Apple WWDC 2023 – New and noteworthy announcements

The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is a highly anticipated annual event organized by Apple, where the tech giant unveils its latest advancements in software and hardware. This year’s WWDC, held on June 5th, 2023, did not disappoint. Packed with exciting announcements, groundbreaking innovations, and visionary updates, Apple once again demonstrated why it remains at the forefront of technological excellence. Let’s delve into the highlights of this extraordinary event.

Apple Vision Pro

Probably the most hyped product that was announced was the Vision Pro. This is Apple’s take on AR and VR and to be honest it looks pretty incredible, it has various sensors and cameras which means you don’t actually need to use a controller with it.

Unfortunately, the Vision Pro is not available to buy yet and will have a hefty price tag when it does come out, but if its as revolutionary as Apple claims, there might be a long waiting list.

MacBook Air 15-inch

The MacBook Air has always been one of the smallest Apple Macs you can buy, in fact I still remember when you could buy an 11-inch version. Well with this new one Apple is going bigger, and I think this is great!

There are many people that would like to have a large screen for a laptop, but will most likely not need the power of the Pro, and the price tag that comes along with it.

While there is no massive difference other than battery life than the 13-inch MacBook Air this is certainly a welcomed edition in my eyes.

Mac Pro and Mac Studio with M2 Ultra

I won’t dive into too much detail on these new and updated Mac’s, however the important thing to take away from this is that Apple has transitioned all it’s Mac’s to Apple Silicone.

I think since Apple Silicone first arrived we have seen some really impressive numbers, and as someone that still used the MacBook Air M1 I have to say I’ve got no complaints with compatibility or trying to find apps that work with the machine.

The new M2 Ultra chip looks like it’s going to take things to another level yet again and will go way above what most people will need.

iOS 17, iPadOS 17, WatchOS10 and MacOS Sonoma

While Apple announced some exciting new software features for all of its products, I have to say the one I was most excited to see was WatchOS. This is the first major update since the release of the Apple Watch and I think it was needed.

A lot of the Apps have now been redesigned to be full-screen and take advantage of a bigger screen, and have some smaller complications in the corners as well. They have also added a Workout API which will allow third-party training schedules to show directly in the workout app, and as someone that had to put these all in manually for my marathon training, this is a much-needed addition.

Also from any watch face you can now scroll down where you will find widgets, this will show you a snippet of information or just have a place to quickly launch some apps.

In conclusion, Apple has released a good amount of hardware and software features at this year’s WWDC, however, we will have to wait a little longer for these software updates as they won’t be available to download until later this year.
