Kindle Paperwhite 2021 – Should you upgrade?

So amazon decides to quietly launch an updated Kindle Paperwhite, but what are the differences, and should you upgrade? Well we are going to dive into it and let you know if it’s worth upgrading.

I still have my first Kindle, the Paperwhite bought in 2014, the reason I’ve held off getting one as although it had some nice updates I always felt that it was missing one big thing, USB-C.

Well I’m happy to announce that is one of the updates to this Paperwhite! It’s probably not a big deal for most people but I think it is a perfect addition. Think about it, the kindle is mainly used when travelling and the last thing you are thinking about is if you have all the correct cables for every single device. Now, with the exception of the iPhone you can just take a USB-C cable and be okay!

While we are talking about charging, the Kindle Paperwhite 2021 also supports QI charging, this I think is very unnecessary as the battery life lasts for 8 weeks. But when you think about people that read in bed they can now just put the kindle on the wireless charger every night and never have to think about charging it.

The next upgrade is welcomed but in my eyes not something that makes a huge difference, a bigger screen. It’s been increased from 6″ to 6.8″, and the actual device has not gotten larger just the bezels of the device smaller. For me I used the bezels to hold the device so shrinking them might make it a little harder to hold, however they are not completely gone.

Lastly, we have a fantastic new feature, a warm light. This will make reading in bed or at night alot less straining on the eyes. You can either adjust this manually or what I will most likely do it just schedule it so I never have to worry about diving into the settings.

Now although it is not technically a new feature, if you are like me and have not upgraded your Kindle for a while, you might not even know this exists. The Kindle Paperwhite is waterproof! Now this doesn’t mean you can read underwater, however if you are reading in the bath, next to a pool, or on the beach you won’t need to worry about getting splashed.

The Kindle Paperwhite 2021 still has a plastic screen, so you wont need to worry about smashing It, however if you are taking it on holiday you might want to protect the screen while in beach bags with sandy flip flops, or large hotel keys with a Kindle Paperwhite 2021 case.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading all about the new Kindle Paperwhite 5, let me know if you’ll be picking one up!
