How to take a screenshot on Note 8

Taking the screenshot on the Note 8 is a little different than it’s been on past Samsung phones — after all, that handy home button has disappeared from the bottom of the phone as the bezels have been stripped off! However, learning the new way to take screenshots on the Note 8 isn’t difficult. Here’s how to do it.

1. Press two buttons simultaneously

The first way will be familiar to anyone that’s used other Android phones — just press the Volume Down button (on the left hand side) and the Lock button (right hand side) simultaneously.

You’ll see the screen flash, and the screenshot will be shown on-screen until you click past it. Note that you can press ‘Scoll capture’ to automatically scroll down the page you’re looking at and take a massive screenshot of the whole thing.

2. Use a palm swipe

You can also take a screenshot using a gesture — although you may have to take a brief trip to your Settings menu to enable it. Visit Settings > Advanced Features and ensure ‘Palm swipe to capture’ is checked. Now, you can place your hand on the left or right edge of the screen, like you’re about to do a karate chop, then move your hand inwards while still touching the screen with the bottom of your hand.

You’ll get the familiar screen flash and the screenshot will be saved. Once you’ve mastered this gesture, you may find it’s faster and easier than using the buttons!

3. Use the S Pen

Hey, remember that little stylus that pops out the bottom of the phone? Yeah, the reason you said you were going to get the Note? Well, it can be used to take screenshots too! Take out the pen, then tap Screen Write on the pop-up that appears. This will take a screenshot, and you can immediately begin writing, highlighting or doodling on the screenshot. Once you’re done, you can crop it, share it or save it as usual. Awesome!

4. Ask Bixby to take a screenshot for you

If you’ve gone to the trouble of setting up Bixby, you can ask her to take a screenshot for you. Press and hold the Bixby button on the left side of the phone, below the volume rocker, and say ‘take a screenshot’. You can also take a screenshot entirely hands-free by saying ‘Hi Bixby’ and then ‘take a screenshot’.

5. Plug in a keyboard and press Print Screen

If you have a USB or Bluetooth keyboard, you can connect it to your phone (if it’s USB, you’ll need a USB-C to USB-A adapter) and then press the Print Screen (PrtScr) button to take a screenshot. Hurrah for modern technology!
