HTC have been rumoured to be working on two Nexus phones this year, and Android Police have received exclusive details on one of them, codenamed Sailfish. Here’s what they’ve revealed thus far.
Hardware
Sailfish will be a 5-inch phone with a 1080p display, making for about 440 DPI. The phone will be powered by a quad-core, 64-bit processor running at 2GHz. The exact model isn’t known, but it could be a Snapdragon 820 at a fairly conservative clock. This is backed by 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage — it’s not known if a micro SD card slot will be present, but as this is a Nexus device, it seems quite unlikely. The chipset will be capable of all the usual LTE bands, plus Bluetooth 4.2. All of this is powered by a 2770mAh battery, boosted no doubt by some sort of quick charging scheme.
Camera & design
The Sailfish will come with an 8-megapixel selfie cam, and a 12-megapixel shooter on the rear. There’s also a fingerprint scanner on the back, and USB-C port on the bottom of the phone. You’ll also find a speaker grille down there, although it’s not clear if there are two speakers or just one. The headphone jack sits at the top of the phone — nope, HTC aren’t pulling an Apple here.
What we don’t know
Of course, the Android Police leak still has a few omissions. We don’t know when the phone will be announced or what its price will be, although Sailfish sounds like the cheaper of the new Nexuses. The overall look and materials of the phone are also unknown; we would guess that a metal body would be present, but plastic and even glass are also possibilities. Hopefully we’ll get more leaks as the traditional autumnal Nexus release season approaches.
