Jaguar Land Rover unveil Tile Bluetooth item-tracking integration

tile-1We’ve long been proponents of Bluetooth trackers here at Mobile Fun, little gadgets that you stick with easily lost items to find them with your phone. One of the first and best options is called Tile, and recently they’ve been in the headlines thanks to the efforts of British car maker Jaguar Land Rover.

Jaguar Land Rover + Tile

JLR has integrated Tile item trackers into its car software, reminding drivers of missing items before they’re left behind. They suggest that you attach Tile trackers to your important bags and belongings, so that you’ll never mistakenly leave home without them.

Drivers are alerted on their car’s dashboard, and have the option to receive directions to the missing item or turn on an incredibly loud (90 decibel) alarm in order to locate their missing items before setting off.

The Tile system will be integrated into all Jaguar Land Rover vehicles with the InControl Apps package, but the flagship vehicle for the program will be the recently-released Land Rover Discovery Sport, which comes with a 10.2-inch touchscreen. Tesla made giant in-car touch screens cool, and that trend seems only set to continue in the years and decades to come.

Tile yourself

You don’t need to have a Jaguar or Land Rover to use Tiles, of course. The Tile app is compatible with iOS and Android, and works with as many Tile trackers as you have. You can buy single Tiles for £23, or a four-pack for £45, although presumably JLR owners will receive some for free. As well as tracking bags, you can also track smaller items like your remote, keys, wallet or PC… although you can’t track your phone, as you need the phone to do the tracking ;-)
