Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 UK release date announced

We’re proud to announce another exclusive titbit of information: the UK (and likely European) release date of the Samsung Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5. These phones will be hitting British shores on May 6th, seven weeks (and one day) from now.

We’ll be offering the phones SIM-free and unlocked, as is our custom. As we revealed in January, the Galaxy A3 will cost £269 and the Galaxy A5 will go for £319. Both Samsung phones offer a compelling combination: signature Samsung style and software, backed with mid-range hardware and features, at a low price.

Here’s a little more information about each one, and links to our SIM-free product pages.

Samsung Galaxy A3

1

The Galaxy A3 is the most inexpensive member of the 2016 A-series, and also the smallest with its (still sizeable) 4.7-inch 720p display. The phone has modest internals, with a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor and 1.5GB of RAM. Storage is good though, with 16GB of internal space plus Micro SD expansion. The rear camera is a 13-megapixel shooter, and there’s a 5-megapixel selfie cam too.

All in all, it’s a well-equipped little phone, and combined with its good looks it could prove to be a popular model.

Samsung Galaxy A5

The Galaxy A5 steps up to a full 1080p screen with a 5.2-inch diagonal. The phone also includes upgraded internals, in the shape of an octa-core Snapdragon 615 CPU. This is backed with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage; Micro SD expansion is also available here.

The 13-megapixel camera from the A3 returns, but this time it sports optical image stabilisation; the 5-megapixel front-facer is unchanged. The Galaxy A5 also supports Samsung Pay, thanks to the inclusion of a fingerprint reader. Samsung Pay is scheduled to launch in the UK later this year.

The A5 seems like a worthwhile upgrade over its predecessor for the extra £50 you’ll spend on it.
