Samsung Galaxy S7 news roundup: photos, UK price, water resistance, accessories

A week ago, we took a look at the biggest rumours surrounding the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Since then, the pace of leaks has only increased, so we’ve got a lot more to share — including the first real world photos, proof of the phone’s water resistance and details on S7 accessories.

Leaked photos

First up, we’ve got the first photographs of the two phones — and surprise, they look like the press renders! The first photo, shown above, shows the back of the Galaxy S7. The big takeaway here is the rear camera, which is much flatter than its predecessor. With the bulging S6 camera in mind, this is a big improvement, and should let the phone lie flat on a desk without issues. It also points towards the rumoured 12-megapixel sensor, compared to the 16-megapixel sensor in last year’s model.

Next is a front shot of the Galaxy S7 Edge, posted on Chinese Twitter alternative Weibo. The phone is running a benchmarking app showing a SM-G9350 model number, which would agree with past reports. There’s not much else to see here, the photos substantiate earlier rumours rather than announcing massive new features.

UK price

One unknown remains the price of the phones, although reviewdao.vn has reported the Vietnamese prices of the new phones: $740 for the Galaxy S7 and $890 for the Galaxy S7 Edge. We’d expect UK prices to sit around £450 – £500 for the S7 and £550 to £600 for the S7 Edge, unless Samsung changes their pricing strategy drastically.

Water resistance

Water resistance has been a part of rumours for some time, and now we’ve gotten the first item of real proof: an Indian customs database, which includes entries for waterproof components including a microphone and SIM tray. Water resistance seems to be something of a trend for 2016, with Apple also rumoured to introduce the feature on the iPhone 7.

Official accessories

Finally, we’ve got some new information on what accessories we can expect for the flagship phones. Samsung are reportedly making a battery case for the phones, with a 2750mAh capacity, which comes bundled with a wireless charging kit. This will cost €90, according to WinFuture.

Other accessories are also mentioned in the report, including a keyboard case for €70, and a full range of more traditional cases — including the S View flip covers, an LED flip wallet, Clear View cases and a protective Guard Cover. We’ll have a full range of official accessories once they’re announced.
