New LG G5 ‘Magic Slot’ accessories leak

Yesterday we covered the LG G5’s Magic Slot accessories, including a camera battery grip and a theorised DAC module for LG’s upcoming flagship. Today, we’re back with the latest news, including new details on the audio module and a photo of an extra battery module. Let’s get right into it!

Bang & Olufsen to bring Hi-Fi audio to G5

nexus2cee_boplay-728x331LG has announced that it’ll be partnering with prominent audio brand Bang & Olufsen on the G5, with the speaker company providing ‘hi-fi audio features’ to the phone.

It’s likely that they’re responsible for the DAC (digital to analogue converter) module that was leaked earlier, which should provide better sound quality than the integrated solutions commonly found in even recent smartphones. It’s also possible that the module could include extra ports, a more powerful headphone amplifier or even integrated speakers, but we’ll have to wait and see.

However it pans out, the upgrade will likely only be noticeable on high-end speakers and headphones (and with high quality / lossless music). Still, the partnership itself is a newsworthy addition to the phone and a statement on the types of partners that LG is looking to attract to produce Magic Slot hardware.

The other Magic Slot news we have today comes via Chinese tech site 0937w, which shows off the box of a battery module. The battery looks to remain entirely within the G5, unlike the camera grip module we saw earlier.

It’s not clear whether this is a replacement battery with the same capacity, or (more likely) a second battery to provide extra battery life.

Regardless, the packaging looks official enough, and surely serves as the final proof that LG’s Magic Slot will be a major focus of the phone.

Very friendly

Friendship is apparently as important to LG as it is to Tea Gardner, as they’ve dubbed their countdown page for the G5 “come and meet the new friends on the playground.” Friends is mostly LG’s term for its pop-in accessories, and definitely sounds a lot more wholesome than “magic slot”. We’ve preempted the announcement with the launch of our “G5 and friends” category, which currently contains the battery add-on and should contain a few more friendly faces next week.
