The LG G5 will be announced next week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but we already have a good idea of what to expect thanks to months of leaks and rumours. This week, we got final confirmation of the phone’s most exciting feature: its Magic Slot, an add-on port that allows different accessories to be inserted into the bottom of the phone, providing new features and functionality. Let’s take a closer look.

The Magic Slot was first detailed by Evan Blass at Venture Beat, who originally suggested we’d see modules including cameras, audio amplifiers or a physical keyboard. Blass recently posted afresh, stating that LG would offer only two modules on launch: a DAC (digital-audio-converter) for better-sounding music and a camera grip attachment, which provides a more ergonomic shape while taking photos and 1,100mAh of extra battery power.

Android Authority posted the first real photos of the Magic Slot in action, showing off the phone with what appears to be a camera grip attachment. The author of the post, Kris Carlon, reported that the module could include additional controls for the camera, including a dial for adjusting parameters, power button and shutter button. That would make a lot of sense, and could make the G5 a better choice for photographers if the phone’s dual-lens setup also works well.

Here at Mobile Fun, we’ve already begun preparing for the launch of the G5. We’ll have a full range of LG G5 accessories—hopefully including a few add-on modules of our own—in addition to a collection of LG G5 cases and covers.
