Taking a selfie is now part of everyday life. Whether we’re eating out, at a party or just visiting grandma. There’s always an opportunity to put our game face on and share with the world even the most mundane aspects of life.
But did you know that this innocent, everyday activity can actually be fraught with danger?
Yes indeed, over the past few years Priceonomics has reported 49 selfie-related deaths… and okay this mightn’t be a particularly high figure when consider there are over 7 Billion people in the world, but still it’s food for thought.
The stats
The average age of selfie fatalities is 21, with over 70% of victims being male (I’m not even going to comment on that one!).
Contributors include the growing trend for taking extreme selfies as well as random, freak accidents.
Which country has the most selfie-related deaths?
When it comes to selfie-related deaths India is a world leader, with a total of 19 selfie-related deaths since 2014.
In which scenarios are you mostly likely to die?
If you’re wondering how you could possibly meet your fate taking a selfie, well here’s how. The majority of deaths occurred with people falling from a height, closely followed by drowning.
Rather surprisingly, or maybe not, two people have died by grenade while taking a selfie!
