While companies like Apple and Samsung are working in secret on their next big smartphone, artists across the world are imagining what’s to come. Today, we’re looking at some of the most breath-taking smartphone concepts ever, including the next generations of Apple and Samsung flagships, and completely novel creations.
SVPER transparent concept
Industrial designer Rafa? Czaniecko created this concept, showing a completely transparent AMOLED display. This allows some pretty clever features, including a hidden front-facing camera and a hidden fingerprint scanner, allowing almost all of the phone’s front to be used for the screen.
The phone takes cues from the Tactus technology demo, with tactile bumps on the screen that let you feel buttons and other on-screen elements like the fingerprint scanner, then fade away when you don’t need them.

iPhone Essence
Herman Haidin from Ukraine created this concept iPhone, called the Essence. It imagines an iPhone made from liquid metal, allowing for easier cooling and durable protection for the internals, not to mention the option for on-demand transparency.
As with many smartphone concepts, the Essence includes a full-front display, waterproofing and wireless charging (including improbable solar charging). Still, it’s a nice and well-illustrated concept.

Galaxy S8 Edge
Steel Drake (probably not his real name) posted this Galaxy S8 Edge concept on art site Behance, showing off a stylish smartphone with a much rounder look than past Galaxy phones. That includes the curved Edge display, as well as shiny caps on the top and bottom. The rear of the phone is a bit crowded, with a redesigned Galaxy logo and a nearly flush square camera and even a pico-projector tucked near the top.
Mr. Drake has also put together a concept video for his design, which gives a good tour of the phone and its features.

Dual-display iPhone 8
The iPhone 7 is expected later this year, but concept artists have already started imagining the next generation: the iPhone 8, which would presumably launch in 2018. Jermaine Smit, the artist, created a concept iPhone 8 with two displays (one high resolution, one low resolution), a laser keyboard emitted from the side of the phone and a larger rear-facing camera. The phone also features wireless charging, which is actually rumoured to appear in the iPhone 7 or 7S. The full video is definitely worth watching, so check it out below.
