Unlike many other smartphones the iPhone (even the latest models the 6S and 6S Plus) doesn’t feature a dedicated notification light. For some this is a bit of an issue as it means you can’t glance at your phone to check if you have any active notifications without picking it up, and it’s yet another thing that Android and Windows Phone users can crow about…
Luckily there is a workaround to this involving the LED Flash on the back of the phone. While not specifically for this use for most users, it is an accessibility feature that was included by Apple to cater for those who are deaf or hearing impaired. Once enabled, in addition to the usual beeps and vibrations the LED Flash will also provide a visible indicator of any incoming or active notifications.
Enable the iPhone LED Flash for alerts
To enable this excellent feature, just follow these simple steps:
- Open up the Settings menu
- Tap on General
- Tap on Accessibility
- Switch the toggle for LED Flash for Alerts (underneath the ‘Hearing’ heading) to ON
