USB Type C is starting to become more mainstream, and so of course we’re seeing some sleek new accessories to take advantage of the new reversible connector. One of the best looking is this combination car charger and power bank from Nomad. It’s called the Road Trip, and it’s coming soon to Mobile Fun!

A sleek and practical design

The Road Trip comes with two USB-C ports and one USB-A port, tucked into a sleek design that resembles a bowling pin optimised in a windtunnel. It’s small enough to fit in your pocket or your car’s lighter socket, so you can get power whether you’re in your car or out. The dark grey two-tone plastic looks great, and is super durable as well.

The Road Trip has a 3000mAh internal battery, allowing it to fully recharge an iPhone 6S nearly twice over. It’s really convenient to have a car charger that’s also a power bank, as you can charge both your phone and the Road Trip’s internal battery at the same time.

The power of USB Type-C, the modern connector

There are two USB-C ports at its broader end, sitting atop a quartet of LEDs that tell you the current charge level. These are compatible with an ever-growing range of modern devices, including the new MacBook, Google’s latest Nexus devices and the OnePlus Two. You can still charge older devices too, with the built-in standard USB port, or you could even use USB Type-C adapters. Having three ports available of course means that you can charge three devices at once, from smartphones and tablets to laptops.

So what’s the deal with USB-C? Well, it’s a new connector that has a bunch of nice qualities compared to Micro USB and Lightning. It can be used for many things – power, data, video, audio – and it can pass on much more power or data than earlier connectors. It’s also fully reversible and bi-directional; you can insert it either way up, and you can use it to pass power in either direction. USB-C is quite handy, and should become the standard connector for a wide range of devices in the future.
