LG updates Urbane smartwatch with LTE, GPS & more

LG-Watch-Urbane-2nd-Edition-01

The LG Watch Urbane is one of the best-looking Android Wear smartwatches, and its successor looks even better.

The new 2nd Edition model has a larger 1.38-inch circular P-OLED display at a sharp 480 x 480 resolution. Despite the larger screen, all-day battery life should still be achievable thanks to a more capacious 570mAh battery. The processor and storage are the same as earlier Android Wear models, but the watch does have 768MB of RAM (up from 512MB).

The 2nd Edition Urbane is smarter too, thanks to a new (non-removable) strap that includes some additional circuitry. An LTE-grade cellular connection is the highlight, although outdoor exercisers will no doubt appreciate the new GPS functionality as well. That makes the new Urbane the most capable standalone Android Wear smartwatch yet. If you leave your smartphone at home (or it runs out of power halfway through the day), then you’ll still have a watch to take calls, search the web and perform other simple tasks.

The watch will be compatible with both iOS and Android, although it’s not clear whether the LTE and GPS connectivity will work the same on both platforms. The watch will be available with white, blue, black and brown leather bands, but exact prices aren’t yet available.

The Urbane 2nd Edition is being released first in the US and LG’s home market of South Korea, but we’ll see a worldwide release before too long I’m sure. We’ll be looking to stock the watch if possible, so stay tuned!
