The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5 were just announced at a Samsung event in New York City and streamed around the world. We’re the first in the UK to reveal the sim-free price of the new Galaxy S6 Edge Plus: £699. The steep price is matched by the phone’s best-in-the-world specifications, including a 5.7-inch 1440p display, octa-core processor and 4GB of RAM. Here’s how the new phone stacks up against the last-generation S6 Edge, as well as the Note 4 and Note 5.

Outside of the table, what’s the difference between the Galaxy S6 Edge and the new Galaxy S6 Edge Plus? The big change is a move to a 5.7-inch phablet-sized display, making for a phone that’s bigger (but not as much as you’d expect). Samsung have done well to minimise the size of the frame and bezels, making for a phone that’s just 12cm longer and 6cm wider than its predecessor. The phone is thinner too, at just 6.9mm.
On board, look for very similar hardware, including an octa-core Samsung Exynos processor and 32 or 64GB of storage. However, the amount of RAM has grown from 3GB to 4GB. The camera remains largely the same, although Samsung have added a new VDIS stabilisation feature which helps stabilise moving video. Finally, Samsung have added fast wireless charging to the phone, letting it fully recharge in just 2 hours when using Samsung’s new fast Qi wireless charger.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is available in Black Sapphire and Gold Platinum for £699. A firm availability date has yet to be announced, but the phone will launch in just one week in the US. For the latest sim-free information, please visit the product pages linked below:
