When the LG G4 first launched in a glitzy event, the Korean company made special and repeated mention of the phone’s leather back. The back was indeed stylish compared to the leather-shaped plastic that Samsung used, and appeared to make the G4 one of the most stylish phones out of the box in the Android world. As the back was removable, it was even possible to retain the Micro SD card slot and replaceable battery that rivals Samsung removed with their latest models. It also allows something quite special: you can order the more readily available plastic model, then upgrade to a replacement leather cover in the colour of your choice later.
However, a few months down the line and we’re no closer to seeing these replacement leather covers hit the shelves. We’ve actually just been in contact with our supplier, and the word is that LG are delaying the release of these back covers for a long time. Our current ETA is a good two months – late August or early September. It’s disappointing news for anyone waiting for these back covers, and may mean that it’s time to look for alternatives.
