Galaxy S6 crowned conclusive winner over iPhone 6 in blind camera survey

HEADER-1

Which phone has the better camera – the iPhone 6 or the Galaxy S6? Phone Arena has a definitive answer, after a series of head-to-head blind trials.

Visitors to the site were asked to vote for the better photo, without knowing which of the two phones had taken it. The results were surprisingly one-sided, with Samsung’s Galaxy S6 receiving a clear majority in all six of the test photos. In fact, the Galaxy S6 received approximately 90% of the total votes, with the iPhone only climbing above a 10% share in two of the six photos.

In general, the Galaxy S6 seemed to benefit from having a higher megapixel sensor. The additional clarity this provided was particularly obvious in the zoomed sections shown alongside each photo, where the S6 looked much sharper than its competition. For this reason, it’s understandable that Apple are said to be moving to a 12-megapixel sensor for this year’s unannounced iPhone. That move has been a long time coming; Apple have used an 8-megapixel sensor in the iPhone since the iPhone 4S, released in 2011.

Low-light scenes particularly favoured the Galaxy S6, with the final scene showing the sharp contrast between the two phones. The iPhone shot is much darker, with little visible detail. The optical image stabilisation for the Galaxy S6 seems to be working well here. It would be interesting to see the comparison redone with the iPhone 6 Plus, which is the only iPhone to support OIS so far.
