3 upcoming Android phones to watch out for

It’s another interesting time for phone fans, as the industry gets ready for the busy autumn release calendar. Here are three upcoming Android phones you should be watching out for – and what we know so far.

3. LG G4 Pro

The LG G4 Pro is an interesting phone; it’s a mid-year upgrade over the G4, in largely the same way that the Galaxy Note beats out the Galaxy S in terms of specs and features each year. The G4 Pro is scheduled to drop later this year, and comes with a large metal body, compared to the plastic or leather that clads the G4.

The G4 Pro also has some impressive specifications, according to a post on Weibo. The G4 Pro will be one of the first handsets with Qualcomm’s unannounced Snapdragon 820 octa-core CPU, backed with 4GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB of internal storage. It also comes with an impressive 5.8-inch screen with a 2560 x 1440 resolution, and a ridiculous 27-megapixel camera on the back and an 8-megapixel unit up front. These specifications are still hearsay, but if true they point to a distinctly overpowered phone!

2. Moto G (3rd Gen)

Motorola’s last few phones have been incredibly solid and good value, if a bit unexciting. They’re expected to continue to deliver along those lines, if recent leaks about the new third-generation Moto G are any indication. According to photos posted on Google+ (fittingly), the phone will sport an LG-style vertical strip and a diagonal lined texture on the rear.

In terms of specifications, the third-generation model will include a 5-inch screen and an upgraded Snapdragon 410 processor. This’ll be backed with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, plus micro SD expansion. The big upgrade is to the camera, which will include a 13-megapixel sensor on the rear and 5 megapixels up front (compared to 8 / 2MP before). The phone is expected for this autumn.

1. OnePlus Two

The OnePlus One was a big hit last year, although its great specs and low price were set back by some software issues and an annoying invite-only sales system. Now, OnePlus are following it up with their second phone, the obviously named OnePlus Two.

Like last time, the company is leaking bits and pieces of information to the press. They’ve started with the choice of processor, which is slated to be the current highest-end model from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 810 v2.1. This iteration is apparently less prone to the overheating that was reported from some quarter in the first phones to be released with the chipset. The OnePlus Two will also use a USB Type C connector, making it one of the first phones to do so. The reversible connector is useful, but does require new cables. Expect more news on this phone to come piecemeal before the eventual release.
