Insane 200GB Sandisk micro SD card announced

One of the biggest announcements at the Mobile World Congress was also one of the smallest. Sandisk introduced a new microSD card with an absolutely unreal capacity: 200GB. The fingernail-sized card has more storage than most laptops these days, and can work in phones, tablets and cameras.

So what can you fit in 200GB? Quite a lot, as you can imagine. You could fit around 20 hours of HD video, 68 thousand songs or 41 thousand photos. That’s practically an unlimited amount if we’re talking about photos and videos shot from a smartphone; you’ll never have to worry about running out of space again!

This card also unlocks the door to new applications that wouldn’t be practical with smaller cards. For example, you’ll be able to shoot high frame rate HD video and RAW images, without quickly running out of storage space. You could also legitimately use your phone as a portable hard drive, storing files and transferring them between computers.

The micro SD card is fast too, supporting transfer speeds of up to 90 MB/s. That makes it easy to copy across your photos, music or what-have-you, and it also means you can copy over apps and have them load quickly on your phone. Write speed is also rapid, at least Class 10 (which is 10MB/s).

The Sandisk 200GB Micro SD Card has a US price of $399, although UK prices have yet to be announced. The card will work with all devices that support the SDXC standard, even those that have a listed maximum capacity of 128GB.
