The LG G3 is the most advanced smartphone in the world, and one of the first to launch with a 5.5-inch display at an amazing 2560 x 1440 resolution. The rest of the smartphone is no slouch either, with a 13 megapixel laser focus camera, a Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor and a long-lasting 3,000 mAh battery. Let’s look at the phone’s hardware first. 5.5 inches sounds like a massive display, but thanks to the smallest bezels of any mainstream smartphone, the G3 isn’t any taller than the 5-inch HTC One M8 or the 5.2-inch Sony Xperia Z2, and is indeed lighter than both. The minimal bezels are achieved through moving the phone’s buttons to the back cover. This means that you can reach them just as easily right or left-handed, and you don’t need to adjust your grip to hit them.
Another big new feature is on the back of the phone: the camera. While the sensor remains strong at 13 megapixels, the real innovation comes with the autofocus system here. Like DSLRs and other high-end cameras, the G3 now uses a laser autofocus system that chops valuable milliseconds from focus times, allowing LG to boast of the smallest delay between shutter and camera on the market.
Inside, the G3 is equally impressive. The 32GB version of the phone comes with 3GB of RAM, while the 16GB model has 2GB. The heart of the phone is its Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, which is the fastest on the market and runs up to 2.5GHz. The battery is newly removable, and at 3,000 mAh should offer great battery life even with the large screen and powerful processor.
The G3 runs the latest version of Android on board, version 4.4.2 KitKat. The phone will come with LG’s custom Android skin, which has been pared down since last year to make for a slicker, more readily understood experience.
The LG G3 looks like a strong Android smartphone, with a clever focus on display, camera and battery life.
