The LG G3 hasn’t yet been officially announced, but LG have already revealed their official case for the G3. The case is called the QuickCircle case, and it features Qi charging and an interesting circular aperture on the cover.
A window to your smartphone
Here’s what LG have to say about the QuickCircle:
“The folder-style case lets users enjoy various features of their G3 without ever having to open the cover. Users can check the time, place calls, send text messages, take photos, listen to music or get an update of their health directly from the circular window.”
Like Samsung’s S View cases, the window is made of clear plastic and shows a portion of the phone’s screen. This means you can easily see the time, the weather, incoming calls and other notifications. It also means that you can respond to these alerts by swiping on the window, so you can reject calls or drop automated responses to text messages. That eliminates the need to open and close your case’s cover all the time.
LG have prepared a wide range of potential programs to run in that circular space, including the obvious – analogue watches and rings of app shortcuts – and slightly less fitting motifs – digital watches, exercise information and cropped pictures. As well as making their own apps to run there, LG will also be releasing an SDK to developers, to allow them to write their own circular apps.
Qi wireless charging for convenience
Another nice benefit of the QuickCircle case is that it adds Qi wireless charging support to the G3, so it’ll work with a wide range of Qi wireless chargers, docks and car holders. This is the first time we’ve seen wireless charging in a flagship LG smartphone, although it was included in the LG-made Nexus 5.
A rainbow of colours, waiting for you
The QuickCircle case will be available in a wide range of colours: metallic black, silk white, aqua mint, Indian pink and shine gold. There’s a good enough range here that almost anyone should be able to find a shade they’re happy with.
