BlackBerry Z10 coming January 30th, accessories too!

After a difficult year, RIM is preparing to turn over a new leaf with a new operating system and a raft of new phones. The first of these new phones will be called the BlackBerry Z10, and it’ll run the new BlackBerry 10 OS. The BlackBerry Z10 is intended to be a new start for RIM, a fresh and modern phone that will allow RIM to secure that #3 position behind Android and iOS. For BlackBerry fans, it’ll be a considerable upgrade and should be a good reason to stick with the platform.

While the Z10 isn’t expected to be fully announced until RIM’s event on January 30th, thanks to a few enterprising individuals we have a pretty good idea of what it’ll look like, what specifications it’ll have and what features the underlying operating system will include. Let’s have a look!

Look

The BlackBerry Z10 is a touch-screen phone, with a grilled back that sports the familiar BlackBerry logo. The square chassis has a wedge shaped top and bottom, like the Motorola Razr M or Razr i. It’ll be available in black and white.

Specifications

According to leaked material, the BlackBerry Z10 will come with some fairly strong specifications for a BlackBerry. We’re expecting a dual-core Snapdragon S4 running at 1.5 GHz, HSPA+ and LTE connectivity, a 4.2″ 1280 x 768 display, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. This can be augmented with up to 32 GB of microSD storage. Likewise, the 1800 mAh battery is also removable. Connectivity is good, with support for WiFi N, a-GPS, NFC, Bluetooth 4 and micro HDMI. All of this puts the Z10 in roughly the same kind of performance bracket as the best Android phones last year, like the HTC One X.

Software features

BlackBerry 10 will be a fairly radical imagining of the core BlackBerry OS, with a fresh interface and wide use of gestures. The keyboard has been a real focus too, with a lot of features aimed at suggesting words and fixing your mistakes – including adding missed spaces, a feature not found on Apple or Android. RIM are also looking to add video calling to BlackBerry Messenger, which again plays to their strengths. We should also see a redesigned app store with 70,000 apps – a 10th of what’s available on Google or iOS, but still a good number.

Accessories

Of course, here at Mobile Fun we’re already preparing for the launch of the new BlackBerry flagship. We’ll have a wide range of BlackBerry Z10 accessories, including official and third party BlackBerry Z10 cases. We’ve already added a host of official cases to our site – including a flip shell in three colours, a leather pocket and a transform shell. Conclusion

I think that’s about it. Be sure to tune in on January 30th to see BlackBerry 10 and Z10 launch!
