The BlackBerry Bold 9900 may be that fabled phone that’ll attract people from way outside its main market; a lot of people I’ve talked to are considering making the Sim Free BlackBerry 9900 the first BlackBerry they’ve owned. It makes a lot of sense; as well as the legendary keyboards and security that have always been their strong suite, RIM have included a properly high resolution (albeit still small) touch screen, faster processor and numerous upgrades to the OS.

Our first case is definitely aimed at the younger part of the market, with some very eye-catching designs etched into the back of this BlackBerry 9900 case. The geometric designs of the Case-Mate Gelli, as you can see below, really stand out against the landscape of more symmetric, less colourful textured cases. In grey, the case has the air of militaria about it, while the bright pink has a much different poppy aesthetic.

This BlackBerry Bold 9900 cover includes several unique features, including grooves to protect the trackpad and a swivel-style clip that can rotate vertically as well as horizontally.

As you’d expect from a first party product, this case fits perfectly. There’s even proximity-sensing technology in the phone itself, which can shut off the screen when you put it inside this case. As you’ll be taking the phone outside the case to use it, it’s also perfect for your BlackBerry 9900 car holder; you won’t struggle to fit it in due to a bulky case.

3. Case-Mate Tough

The Case-Mate Tough is, as always, one of the premier protective BlackBerry Bold 9900 cases. If you’re looking to take your BlackBerry when you’re hiking, jogging or playing sports, then this is the case for you. This BlackBerry 9900 cover comes into two parts: a form-fitting silicone shell around the inside of the device, and an ABS plastic hard shell. The inner piece will deal with impacts, while the outer layer protects against scratches and crushing while also providing a comfortable grip.

The Tough comes in two colour schemes: Black and Black/Pink. Both look great thanks to the textured cover, although the Black/Pink is surprisingly pleasant. As with all of the cases listed here, the Tough comes with cutouts that allow you to attach your BlackBerry Bold 9900 charger as well as use the buttons and camera.

The exposed silicone corners work wonderfully to dissipate sudden shocks around the phone. There are also silicone plugs for the audio and USB ports, which will prevent damage from dust and dirt while the jacks aren’t in use.

The Case-Mate Barely There barely takes the top spot from the Otterbox Commuter, with a slightly better look and slightly thinner frame, although its protective qualities are slightly reduced as well. As you can see, the brushed aluminium back is nicely complemented by the gunmetal flavoured sides, giving a top class look that’ll impress in the board room or the classroom.

The case is among the slimmest available too, which is great when you’re looking for an appropriate BlackBerry Bold 9900 car holder.

This uncomprisingly thin case really takes the biscuit, if you’ll excuse my Yorkshire, and provides a very fitting combination of classy looks and protection too. For that, we award the Case-Mate Barely There our top spot.
