Easy Ways To Save On Your Energy Costs

If there is one thing we know for sure at the moment, it’s that we need to take whatever steps we can to save on your energy costs. Taking this into account, today, we are going to take a look at some money saving tips that can help all of us as the cost of living rises.

Let There Be Light

Ok, so one of the first things we need to address is this, before we start taking action and replacing items throughout the house, we need to make sure that we are keeping vigilant and turning off unused sockets and lights when they are not needed.

While it may seem like a small thing, when you look at the facts, it’s kind of frightening. So, if you left one 50 watt light bulb on, just one, every night for a year, it would cost nearly £450.

Yes, that figure does sound crazy, but that’s the current cost of energy in the UK. So, what can we do about this? Well, our suggestion when it comes to lighting is to think about motion sensor lights.

Personally, motion sensor lights have been something that I have used for quite a few years now, and I have honestly noticed the difference when the bills come.

So, where can you use motion sensor lights? Well, I personally use them staggered down my stairway, I have them in the wardrobes and also on the plinths of my kitchen.

If this is something you think could also work for you, take a look at the motion sensor lights that we have available.

Be Smart

Now, this may not be something for everybody, but honestly one of the best things you can do in your home is to think about taking the road of smart hubs

While this may sound crazy, do bear with us on this one. It seems that one of the biggest deterrents when it comes to taking care of those small things in the house is often the thought of having to remove yourself from your comfy little space.

So, what’s the best way to tackle this? Well, honestly, making your house as smart as possible. Whether it’s something simple like smart plugs and lights like the ones we have on offer here.

One of the best things about smart devices is the flexibility they can actually offer, and when it comes to saving money there is more at your fingertips than you may know.

For example, there are so many houses that still use a basic function thermostat controller. Now, while these controllers are fantastic at giving you a schedule for your heating, there are very strict limits to how many you can set up and the amount of flexibility you have.

With a smart device, you can simply connect to your enabled home thermostat and you can now create as many routines as you like.

Personally, I have found that setting up routines for lights, power outlets and heating has saved quite a significant amount in my household.

Take Notice Of The Small Things

The final thing we are going to look at today is those small things that we don’t realise cost so much. For example, it is still widely believed that it’s more efficient to take a bath than it is a shower, in reality it’s far more cost effective the other way around.

Generally speaking, for most households, a bath will use, and have to heat double the amount of water that will be used in the shower, now if you are choosing the bath over the shower every day, that’s one huge cost.

Other little things you should consider are, using the microwave instead of the oven where possible. Increase the load size of your washing to reduce the amount of time your washing machine is in use over the week and also, when possible, avoid using the tumble dryer.

So, What’s The Point of This?

We know you are probably wondering why on earth all of this is necessary and will it really help, and the truth is, YES.

If you are a standard energy user, and are known to not really be frugal when it comes to usage of lights, heating, water and everything else around the home – then you may really get a shock when you see how combining these things can dramatically change your energy bills.
