So will the Oppo X 2021, stay a concept or become a reality? We’re not sure! The Oppo X 2021 although 2021 is in the name, you would assume it would release in 2021, right?
However, as for now it is only a concept phone. There has been no news of a phone launch yet, and none of us really have an idea of when this rollable handset is going to launch.
The Oppo X 2021 Rollable smartphone is quite unique and unlike other phones that you can flip/fold such as the Samsung z flip phone, the Oppo X 2021 actually contracts and expands! The Oppo x 2021 is Oppo’s first rollable smartphone and is an absolutely new concept. This concept could potentially change the market for smartphones and bring in something different for users.
Similar to regular smartphones the Oppo X 2021 measures at a length of 6.7 inches. With one swipe upwards, or a click of a button this phone contracts and expands.
The rollable phone expands, giving it a length of 7.4 inches. Yes, literally a mini tablet. The different screen sizes make it the ideal smartphone for gaming, watching videos/movies and much more.
How does the Rollable smartphone concept work?
You’re probably wondering, so how does it work? Well, in order for this phone to contract and expand the user can either swipe up or double click the power button. For the phone to retract all you would need to do is swipe down or again double click the power button.
Okay, but what about the content on the screen, would that change? Nope! Once you expand the screen or retract the screen, the system’s UI adapts to the different screen sizes, meaning the content will easily adjust to the different sizes.
Won’t the screen be affected by the amount of times it contracts and retracts?
The Oppo X 2021 opens up without any creases due to the phone’s fixed and sliding frame which helps the device stay protected no matter what size the phone is. The phone consists of two motors that work to manage the sliding of the phone, ensuring there is no damage while the phone is contracting or retracting.
With its 6.8mm Axis the phone’s screen is able to bend without leaving any traces of a crease. The 2 in 1 plate within the phone becomes a single surface in the middle of the phone, so that when the screen opens up or retracts, the screen remains strong and will not collapse inwards.
To show that the phone is durable no matter how many times it contracts and retracts, Oppo would have to test whether the phone is able to contract and retract upto 200,000 times.
As someone who does love a bit of tech here and there, the rollable phone concept does seem intriguing to me and somewhat different to other smartphones in the Market. The Oppo X 2021 is a smartphone that I would definitely purchase if it was launched, simply because I wouldn’t need a tablet or laptop with me to watch movies in bed!
