iPhone 12 Series | First Look & Hands on Comparison

We’ve been lucky enough to be sent over these iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max replica testing units from our contacts over at Olixar, who have been busy behind the scenes using the units for case testing.

These replica units give us a great insight and understanding of what to expect when Apple release their new handsets later on this year. When it comes to completing the line up, we’re expecting a fourth device in the form of the iPhone 12 Max, which will share the same many physical tendencies with the iPhone 12 Pro. The main differentiating factor expected is the camera modules, in addition to certain internal changes.

Camera Modules

From early information provided by our Far East contacts, both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max will feature dual camera lens’, paired with improved software.

On the other hand, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro are due an upgrade with a new camera module to include three lens’ (wide angle, ultra wide and telephoto) and a LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor, which has previously features on the iPad Pro 2020. The inclusion of LiDar is a big step forward for both augmented reality and photography.

Screen Size & Dimensions

From the replica units received, we can confirm the much reported various sizes of the iPhone 12 Series, with the iPhone 12 Pro Max measuring in with a huge 6.7 inch display, where as the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Max feature a  6.1 inch display, leaving the iPhone 12 with a much smaller 5.4 inch display.

The stand out feature here is that the iPhone 12 will be the smallest of the four handsets, where as previously the iPhone 11 was the mid-sized handset.

Design Language

In-line with early information, the new iPhone 12 Series is set to change in the design department slightly and in-fact take cues from the iPad Pro 2020 and the iPhone 5. Since the iPhone 6, all iPhone’s have features curved edges, however the new iPhone 12 Series will change that by reverting back to a much flatter design.

Button Layout & Ports

From the three replica units we received, the external buttons and Lightning port are identical to that found on the iPhone 11 Series, with the lock button still being located on the right hand side of the handsets, with the volume buttons directly opposite.

As for the much talked about switch from Lightning to USB-C, we’ll have to wait a bit longer, with the iPhone 12 Series all to continue with the Lightning port input.

Wrapping Up

We hope you enjoyed this early look at the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as more comes our way, but for now enjoy the rest of you day!
