How to connect Xperia XZ Premium to TV

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a gorgeous 4K HDR-capable display, but sometimes you might prefer to watch a video or play a game on the biggest screen in the room, like your TV or monitor. Here are the best options for connecting your Xperia XZ Premium to your TV, including wired and wireless options. Let’s get started!

1. Miracast is the obvious option

Like most other modern Android phones, the Xperia XZ Premium supports the Miracast standard, allowing it to connect to smart TVs and dedicated Miracast dongles like Amazon’s Fire TV stick with ease. Just find the screen mirroring option in Settings > Device connection > Screen mirroring, and select your TV or dongle from the list provided. You may have to turn on your TV’s screen mirroring mode before it appears on your list of devices.

2. Google Cast lets you connect to Chromecast

If you prefer Google’s ecosystem, then Google Cast is another strong option. Simply install the Google Home app from the Play Store, then connect to your Chromecast or Cast-compatible TV. Once set up, you can either mirror your entire screen from within the Google Home app, or visit compatible apps like Netflix, iPlayer or YouTube and select the Cast icon to begin streaming to your TV. Remember you’ll need a Chromecast Ultra for 4K streaming!

3. MHL? DisplayPort over USB-C?

Unfortunately, the Xperia XZ Premium lacks the ability to connect to your TV using a wired connection. That means MHL and DisplayPort-over-USB-C HDMIĀ adapters won’t work on the device. That means you’ll have to use a wireless method to connect to your TV, which is more convenient in some ways but removes the possibility of full-quality screen mirroring. One day..!
