“The Wileyfox Spark reaffirms that there’s much more to acceptable modern-day phone performance than what a decent CPU can provide. A lack of RAM and very slow internal storage make this phone crawl along when it tries to do anything remotely complicated.”

“All in all, any burst of light the Spark might have had on paper all but fizzles out when you start using it. Its battery life is terrible, it’s extremely slow and its camera simply isn’t good enough. Throw in just 8GB of storage (of which just under 4GB is available to the user), and the Spark disappoints on nearly every count.”

“With its £80 smartphone Wileyfox has won the race to the bottom, but it’s a bitter, meaningless victory. The end product is basically unusable because of hardware limitations caused by its low price point. Do yourself a favor and pay a little more for something much better.”

Reviewer: Chris Barraclough

“The Wileyfox Spark tantalises us with a feature-packed OS that packs some great privacy and personalisation tools, as well as a decent budget display and surprisingly good rear camera (during daylight conditions). That’s why it’s so frustrating that the Spark is one of the slowest, clunkiest phones that we’ve reviewed in quite some time.”

“It’s not really fit for purpose. You can – just about – use this handset as a smartphone, but every step is a struggle for the Spark as it limps wounded through the Android interface. As a last resort the Spark will just about suffice, but even as a burner phone at a festival it’ll fall short thanks to its flaky battery performance.”
