This week’s most Edible Kickstarter campaigns

There are quite a few eateries, wineries, diners, coffee houses and more on Kickstarter, but we figured we’d focus on campaigns that (if successful), you can actually eat! Something to bear in mind – there are so many alternatives, flavourings and variations of coffee and its associated businesses on Kickstarter that it almost warrants a category of its own so we’ve tried to only include one or two in this article.

Halal Marshmallows

In a nutshell… Handmade Halal Certified Marshmallows – No egg, No dairy and Gluten Free.

As some of our readers may be aware, more often than not marshmallows are made from gelatine – a substance taken from some animals. This means that many people, whether because of their religion (Islam) or personal preferences (Vegetarians and Vegans) cannot eat them. They therefore miss out on the sweet sugary goodness that most of us enjoy! Another downside to a lot of mass-produced marshmallows is that they contain dairy products (again, bad for Vegans) as well as artificial flavourings and preservatives. Luckily these marshmallows contain no animal bits, no egg, no dairy and are also gluten-free!

Spice Cave All-in One Seasoning System

In a nutshell… the world’s first all-in-one seasoning system taking a ‘core-four’ approach.

If variety is the spice of life does that make spice the variety of life? Probably. While you’re considering that existential question, you may want to have a look at the Spice Cave – the all-in-one seasoning system from Kevin Curry (ironically, there is no curry powder in the spice cave). Named in line with the 4 elements you have land, wind, sea and fire each with their own concoction of herbs and spices. Spice Cave differs from the usual supermarket selection in that you can use each spice mix together, or in any number of combinations for example, to make Citrus Cedar Plank Salmon (nope, I’ve not tried that one either) combine the ‘Fire’ + ‘Sea’ spices with a Salmon steak and marvel at how the spices work together.

GBG Soda

In a nutshell… Artisinal soda along the lines of craft beer

Craft beer has exploded over the past few years so it makes sense that ‘craft’ soda and fizzy drinks would experience a similar groundswell of support at some point. If you can get past the Swedish description (thanks Google Translate) (update: they’ve now included an English language description) you’ll find a thoughtful campaign aiming to bring a home-made feel to the ‘adult’ drinks market. Gbg are starting with 2 keys flavours; Ginger Ale and India Pale Ale but are look to expand their range once they get going.

Grass Fed Coffee

In a nutshell… The world’s first ready-to-drink grass-fed butter coffee.

At first glance, adding butter to your coffee sounds like a bit of an odd idea – it’s only meant for spreading on bread isn’t it? Not quite. The practice of adding butter to coffee has been going on for centuries (notable examples include Tibetan Yak Butter Tea and during an Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony). As well as butter, Grass Fed Coffee also includes chicory, fair trade organic coffee and distilled MCT oil. According to the Kickstarter campaign, Grass Fed Coffee is great for those looking for a healthier alternative to energy drinks and those seeking to improve their performance in mental focus energy and clarity. Sounds great!

Prepd

In a nutshell… A re-designed lunchbox with a modular food storage system

Ok, well, you can’t eat it but you can certainly store your lunch in it, and it looks cool enough that we thought it’d be worth including. The core concept of the Prepd pack is removable modular containers useable in multiple configurations to suit your individual daily needs. The Prepd pack also includes a ‘Prepd app’ which aims to make it simple to plan and prepare your lunches for maximum efficiency.
