The HTC One A9 had some great ideas despites its rather derivative design. Now, high quality photos from Chinese blog Anzhuo have shown its quasi-successor, the One X9, and the new phone looks really nice.
Its design is much more refined than the A9, and looks more recognisably like an HTC handset. The X9 has the familiar BoomSound front-facing stereo speakers of the One M series, slim bezels and upgraded hardware.
Amusingly, Anzhuo disparage the way the front-facing camera doesn’t line up with the other elements above the screen: “I strongly recommend [detail-obsessed] Virgos be cautious upon choosing this phone.” The writer also cautions that the camera, flash and antenna lozenge on the back “repeats the mistakes of the Nexus 6P.”
Internally, the One X9 seems a mid-range phone for 2016. The 5.5-inch 1080p device comes with a 2.2GHz octa-core Helio X10 CPU, backed with 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16GB of (expandable) storage. In terms of cameras, we have a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel shooter up front. All of this is powered by a sizeable 3,000mAh battery, according to specifications from Chinese telecom TENAA.
The only problem with this phone besides the wonky front-facing camera placement? So far, there’s no indication that the One X9 will be released in Europe or North America. Instead, you’ll have to rely on a gray market import, or just hope that some of the One X9’s best features make it into the next European HTC flagship.
