How to fix: When your iPad Pro screen goes black

So you’re using your fancy new iPad Pro and suddenly the screen goes completely black.

What do you do?

This is a common problem that has been reported by a number of iPad Pro users – quite vocally on Reddit and Apple’s own forum – the screen goes black and the device is unresponsive.

There appears to be no reason for it and it usually occurs after charging.

In fact it’s a problem so common that Apple themselves have weighed-in with some sage advice. That advice. Turn your device off and then on again. Oh yes folks, try the good old force restart.

The note on the Apple Support Site simply states:

“Learn what to do if your iPad Pro doesn’t respond when you press buttons or tap on the screen, and the screen is black … To get back to using your iPad Pro, force restart it by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.”

Hopefully though if Apple’s aware of this problem, then they’re already working on a more permanent fix for it. So we won’t have to wait too long until this problem is resolved.

In the meantime however, if we do find a more enduring fix for this problem, that doesn’t require repeatedly having to turn your device off and on again, we’ll update this post accordingly.
