Galaxy S7 rumoured to come with Micro SD storage

samsung-galaxy-s5-sd-cardProminent leaker @evleaks has taken to VentureBeat with an interesting new rumour: the Galaxy S7 will come with Micro SD storage, one generation after the new glass and metal design dropped the removable storage slot.

The news, which cites an Italian language website HDBlog, states that the about-face is caused by “significant backlash” by fans after the Galaxy S6 was revealed without a Micro SD card slot or a removable battery. Expandable storage is a key differentiation point against both the iPhone and an increasing number of Android flagships, so it would make sense for Samsung to adapt their design to accommodate a side-mounted Micro SD card slot.

The same report also has some interesting things to say about the Galaxy S7 Edge. The phone will reportedly be much larger and more curved than its predecessor, with a 5.7-inch display and a “gentle curve along the Y axis”. That would make it more in line with LG’s line of curved smartphones, like the G Flex 2 and G4.

Of course, having a screen of that size would also mean that a larger “Plus” model would be unnecessary, simplifying Samsung’s 2016 lineup. It would also make the choice between the S7 and S7 Edge more meaningful than it was last year, when the two phones were the same size and only differed in their curvature. This time around, you’d be choosing between a straight 5.2-inch phone and a curved 5.7-inch phone.

It’s not the first time that these ideas have circulated; indeed @evleaks himself posted about it back in August.
