Sony Xperia Z5 Plus photos & specs leaked

Sony is expected to announce the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact at its September 2nd press conference, a few days before the big IFA trade show in Berlin. Today, we’ve gotten word (and photos) of a new device: the Xperia Z5+. Yup, like Apple and Samsung, it looks like Sony is making a bigger and better version of its latest flagship phone and calling it “Plus”.

True to form, the phone looks impressive. The Z5+ (aka the Z5 Premium) will have a phablet-sized 5.5-inch display, running at a crazy 4K resolution. That means not Full HD, not Quad HD, but proper Ultra HD, 3840 x 2160, four times the area of 1080p. It’s a feat that we knew was coming, but it’s still exciting to hear that particular spec on an actual upcoming phone… even if it is just a rumour.

The phone has a cool look if this photos are to be believed. The traditional squared-off Sony Xperia shape is upgraded with a brushed aluminium back, giving the whole device a very modern look. Particularly without any markings here, the Z5+ definitely looks the business.

The photos show a headphone jack on the top right, a front-facing camera with flash and likely a waterproof design. There appears to be a dedicated camera shutter button on the right side, too. The bottom of the phone sadly doesn’t appear in these photos, but USB-C is a small possibility to replace micro USB.
