Samsung unveil Fast Charge battery packs in gold and silver

Samsung has always been great at producing useful Android accessories, that are often worth getting even if you don’t have a Samsung phone or tablet just because they’re really intelligently designed. Their latest creation definitely falls in that camp: the Samsung Portable Fast Charge Battery Pack.

This 5200mAh battery pack provides rapid charging using the Qualcomm Fast Charge 2.0 protocol. We have a full primer on Fast Charge 2.0 if you’d like to read it (and find out if your device is supported), but the upshot is that these chargers can operate at higher voltages to charge much faster; 60% in just 30 minutes. Most mid and upper-end Android phones of the past year or two support the standard, which comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 6xx and 8xx processors. (To find out if your device is supported, just Google the name of your device plus “Qualcomm fast charge.”)

This particular Samsung portable battery pack is pretty nice in other ways too. It comes in two stylish, elegant colours: gold and silver. The design is refined too, with the kinds of curves and flair that you’d expect on a high-end handset rather than a mere charging pack. The available charge is visible on white LEDs built into the end of the pack, with a simple button to start charging or show the current charge level.

With 5200mAh of power on board, you should be able to charge all Android phones from 0 to 100% at least once, and it’s quite possible that you’ll manage nearly another full charge after that as well (for reference, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Note 5 have 3000mAh batteries, which would be charged to full 1.7 times over).
