The third generation Moto G has arrived. The budget phone has been a big hit since its first inception, and the latest version seems to add a lot without straying from the same low price point. In fact, it’s not really clear whether we can even calls this a “low-end” phone any more!
The 2015 version of the Moto G comes with a 5-inch 720p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There’s also an even cheaper model with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage; both versions can also take Micro SD cards to cheaply bolster their available storage.
The body of the phone has been massively improved compared to last year’s Moto G, with an honest-to-god metal back and full IPX7 water resistance – it’ll survive for 30 minutes at a depth of a metre. That’s in the same league as Sony’s famously waterproof flagship Xperia Z series, and it should increase the phone’s longevity substantially (if you’re prone to dunking your phone in sinks or swimming pools).
One of the most impressive upgrades is to the camera, which with a 13 megapixel sensor and dual tone LED flash is comfortably above Apple’s latest iPhones and equals the best cameras of Android flagships in 2014. The front-facing camera is also strong, with a 5-megapixel sensor. It’s a bit crazy to find a setup like this in such a cheap Android device, and it speaks to the rapid progress of the Android market as much as Motorola’s design choices here.
The Motorola Moto G is also going to be customisable for the first time, if you buy it via Motorola’s site. This will allow you to pay a little more to choose the phone’s colour scheme – back, front, accents and even wallpaper. If you’re not fussed with kitting out a custom phone for some extra dosh, then you can pick it up from us at Mobile Fun via the links below for just £159.99.
Of course, you can also customise it with cases and covers. We’ve got a whole raft of options in our Moto G (3rd Gen) cases section, and we’ll cover these in more detail in later blog posts.
So that’s the 2015, third generation Moto G, without a doubt one of the best Android phones for your buck to launch this year.
