Latest OnePlus Two announcements & leaks

The OnePlus Two is coming soon. The second phone from the Chinese smartphone company will be announced on July 27th, and is expected to go on sale shortly thereafter. OnePlus themselves have been releasing a few key details over the past few weeks, and we’ve also seen some interesting leaks from benchmark results and regulatory findings. Let’s round up what we know so far.

Official announcements

OK, first the official stuff. Aside from the launch date of the phone, we know that the smartphone will include an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, the fastest CPU yet released. More specifically we’re looking at the v2.1 variant, which supposedly deals with the thermal issues that some reviewers reported with earlier models. We also know that the phone will come with a fingerprint sensor, capable of storingĀ five digits and unlocking the phone at twice the speed of the (already rapid) iPhone. Finally, the phone will use the new USB-C connector, which is reversible.

Benchmark leaks

The next, more interesting bit of information comes from a recent GFXBench result. The benchmark reports a Snapdragon 810 CPU running at 1.55GHz, which lines up with what OnePlus have announced. It goes on to show that the phone has a massive 4GB of RAM – a figure that is unparalleled by the vast majority of modern flagship phones, including the One M9 and Galaxy S6. The OnePlus One was one of the first phones to come with 3GB of RAM, so it’s no surprise that OnePlus are pushing out the boat here as well.

Certification leaks

The final piece of the puzzle comes via a Bluetooth SIG filing, a regulatory step required of new Bluetooth-enabled devices. This points to three models of the phone, with numbers A2001, A2003 and A2005. The previous OnePlus phone had only a single model number, the A1001, despite coming in two configurations. The additional model numbers may suggest a greater degree of configuration, including possibly storage, RAM, colour and other factors.

Conclusion

It’ll be interesting to see what is announced on July 27th. What features would you like to see on the OnePlus Two? Let us know in the comments below!
