Uncover is a Dutch firm that provides a unique service – replacing the iconic Apple on the outside of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with a backlit logo of your own design. Their work seems to be a favourite of company CEOs, DJs and other celebrities, but their prices are reasonable enough that ordinary Apple-toting humans can pick one up too. Take a look!
The process of creating a new look for your MacBook’s lid is quite complex. You can either send in your MacBook to be prepared in this way, or you can order a new MacBook to be Uncovered before they send it on to you. You can upload designs, sketches or just vague ideas, and then the firm’s designers will work with you to come up with something that will actually work, and fits your expectations. From there, the company builds the plexiglass inlay and laser cuts the lid itself, before combining both pieces and reassembling the MacBook.
Based on what they’ve produced so far, the process seems to work well – whether it’s fitting in a corporate logo for a CEO or creating a whole custom artwork for a DJ, the results are stunning. If you want to stand out in a sea of bobbing Apples, then Uncover seems like a good choice. The service costs upwards of €399 for a simple design, €499 for a more complex one, with additional engraving for €99.
Of course, the distinctive backlit Apple on the MacBook may be on the way out. Apple’s latest MacBook dispenses with the backlighting in favour of a metallic logo, like that of the iPhone. Still, as long as there are some backlit logo MacBooks in the world, Uncover will be doing some fine work.
