Lumia 435: a fantastic budget phone from Microsoft

The Lumia 435 is the latest low-cost Windows phone, available sim-free and unlocked at a crazy price: £85. You get a lot for your money, too: a 4-inch display, a dual-core processor and Windows Phone 8.1.

Classic Lumia design in black, green and orange

The Lumia 435 is immediately recognisable as a Lumia phone, with a sleek polycarbonate design rendered in black, green or orange. The front of the phone is dominated by the four inch LCD display, with a front-facing VGA camera tucked into the top-right. The Lumia 435 is less than 12mm thick and weighs just 134 grams.

Strong internals for a budget phone

Inside, the Lumia 435 is surprisingly strong for a low-cost phone. There’s a dual-core processor running at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. A 1560mAh battery provides up to 21 hours of 2G talk time, or up to 64 hours of music playback. On the back, you’ll find a 2-megapixel camera capable of recording 480p video. Also included is GPS and an FM radio.

The beauty of Windows Phone 8.1

The Lumia 435 runs Windows Phone 8.1, the latest edition of Windows for phones. From the fun tiled home screen to well-designed apps for texting, surfing the web and HERE maps from Nokia, you’ll be well covered. You can also download more apps in the Windows Phone app store, which now includes big names like Instagram, WhatsApp and Dropbox. Later this year, the Lumia 435 should be updated to the forthcoming Windows 10 for phones with a whole raft of new features.

Available for pre-order now

The Lumia 435 looks like the ideal entry-level smartphone, thanks to a sound design, strong hardware within and easy-to-use Windows Phone 8.1 on board.
