New Samsung MHL 3.0 adapter pushes 4K to your HDTV

The new Samsung MHL 3.0 adapter lets you watch movies, view pictures and listen to music from your smartphone or tablet on your HDTV, in up to 4K Ultra HD resolution with 30 fps and 7.1 surround sound.

How it works

The new MHL adapter works like its predecessors: just plug an HDMI cable into the adapter and the micro USB plug into your phone, and you’ll be ready to go. If your TV supports the MHL standard your phone will charge over HDMI; otherwise you can connect a micro USB cable connected to a USB or wall adapter to charge your device.

Once the adapter is plugged in and you’re tuned to the correct input on your HDTV, monitor or projector, you’ll see your device’s screen mirrored. From here, you can put on a video, play music, show pictures, surf the web or play a game… anything that is on your screen will be shown on your TV. This is great for quickly putting up a YouTube or Netflix video to watch, and with 4K support you’ll be able to show the highest-quality movies both now and in the future.

Supported devices

The MHL 3.0 adapter supports a wide range of Samsung smartphones, including the Galaxy S2 to S5, Galaxy Note 1 to 4, Galaxy Mega and Galaxy Note Edge. Tablets are also supported, including the Galaxy Note 10.1, Note Pro, Tab 3 8.0, Tab 3 10.1 and Tab Pro 8.4. The MHL 3.0 adapter is reverse-compatible with MHL 1.0 and 2.0, ensuring that it’ll still work with older Samsung devices.
