The Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact have yet to be formally announced, but there’s no doubt that Sony’s next flagship phones are coming soon. Both phones have been spotted in the records of American and Russian regulatory agencies, and we’ve even seen details of forthcoming official accessories for the pair. One of these accessories is the DK48, a magnetic charging dock that fits either phone. Let’s take a closer look.
Like earlier Sony magnetic docks, the DK48 fits easily into the dock with a single hand. Rather than relying on the usual microUSB port for charging, the Z3 and Z3 Compact are equipped with metal charging pins. These are water-resistant, so they don’t have to sit behind a flap, saving you that extra bit of bother. Of course, they’re magnetic too, so it’s easy to place the phone in approximately the right position and have the connection click into place.
Of course, while the phone is sitting in the dock you still want to be able to use it. The dock includes a helpful landscape viewing angle, perfect for checking incoming messages, playing games or watching videos.
If you prefer to use your phone with a Z3 case or Z3 Compact cover, then you’re in luck. The package comes with a pair of adapters, allowing you to fit your phone in the dock with or without a cover.
